For her deep knowledge and witty way of writing about fashion as a social construct, she is a frequent media commentator, presenter, workshop and panel facilitator, and design judge (including national/state awards and Fashions on the Field 1980-2019). Jan also conducts regular mentorships and masterclass programmes for emerging fashion journalists and photographers as the co-manager and organiser of Voxfrock Rookie crews (journalism and photography students & graduates). The Rookies cover Melbourne Fashion Weeks and festivals under Jan's supervision and the mentorship of legendary fashion photographer Monty Coles, adjunct professor of photography at RMIT. Jan was a long-time director of the Melbourne Fashion Festival, a role she relinquished in 2021 for a conflict of philosophies about the festival's direction. Finally, Jan achieved a BA (fine arts) and Graduate Certificate (creative writing) from the University of Melbourne and is very happily married with three children.
